Healing cannot and must not wait, especially in a year where the most challenges were faced by the B.I.P.O.C. community. In 2020, Kúkátónón reimagined wellness for trauma-informed care to holistically support the African and African American community. To reimagine community safety for the future, we must think about the safety of our mental state and the protection provided.

A Community Healing Art Training (chat) project. During each session, we work to provide tools and use art creatively to support open dialogue. Now borderless through virtual online platforms. We work collectively to support wellness of the body and mind. Using safe and trusted spaces focused on six (6) transformational pillars for Establishment, Advancement, Encirclement, Adjustment, Enlightenment, and Entitlement; with two (2) narrowed specific topics for each pillar used as a directed guide.

We must ensure that Black Lives, as a collective, do not remain predisposed to selective negative attributes based on systemic racism and institutionalized oppression, including policies, practices, and prestige. Undisputedly, this means addressing the significant gaps for Black Lives in all the areas where mental health, traditionally, has gone unchecked and unchanged.

As such, Kúkátónón launched the pilot as the Real H.I.P. H.O.P. Circles, from October 11 to November 19, 2020, with a culturally specific strategic framework rooted in the African diaspora. Broad research and input from patrons, community leaders and partners, educators, volunteer board, and staff was a motivator.
